Perry Gershon, a 22-year resident on Long Island's South Fork, is the son of two research physicians, and grandson of immigrants on one side, and of an US army physician on the other. He attributes his devotion to public service to his heritage. A successful businessman, he is disturbed by a Washington political class that cares more about themselves than the American people and wants to do something about it. He demonstrated that by co-founding a firm after 2008 which offered alternatives to traditional lending sources that had dried up. He is not interested in partisan fights, but will fight for Long Island’s middle class using his business experience and entrepreneurial spirit. He is married with two children.

From Perry Gershon's website:

"I’m fed up. Lee Zeldin, Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are leading the effort to take away health care for millions of Americans, putting special interests and personal profit first, and fighting against the interests of the people of Long Island.

And that’s why I’m running for Congress.

It’s time Long Island had a strong voice to fight for high-paying jobs, affordable health care, high-quality education, and clean air and water. Rather than stand by as Donald Trump and Washington politicians try to divide us, we can rebuild the middle class.

I’m a businessman, not a career politician, so I look at things differently. Government cannot fix our problems, but I believe we can work together to provide opportunity and create an economy that works for all of us.

One of every 12 people in our district lives below the poverty line. Since 2005, median household income in Suffolk County has grown by less than one percent annually, while inflation has been roughly 2.3 percent -- that’s outrageous. We’ve got the best, brightest, most hard-working people in Long Island - and all they’re looking for is a fair shot. I will work tirelessly to represent this community and make Suffolk County a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

I believe all children should have the opportunity to thrive and succeed, regardless of what neighborhood they live in or how much their parents make. I’ll fight to bring high-skill, high-wage jobs to Long Island so that families don’t have to leave to raise their children. Long Islanders have a right to affordable and accessible health care, quality public education, and a tax code that’s fair to the middle class. Lee Zeldin isn’t fighting for these rights. I will."

Gershon's message to supporters after his primary win:

It's ON.

Gershon with people.jpg

Last night, Long Island voters loudly said enough.

Enough to extremist politicians like Lee Zeldin and Donald Trump.

Enough to attempts to gut health care, Medicare, and Social Security.

Enough to the NRA pulling the strings in Congress without concern for the people who've died from gun violence.

Enough to kickbacks, giveaways, and special favors for the special interests.

Enough to leaders who embrace white supremacists and anti-Semites.

Enough to ripping families apart on our southern border, enough to locking up asylum-seeking families like they're criminals.

While I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for Congress for New York's first congressional district, this election goes beyond party.

This is about every last one of us who dreams of a better future for our families, friends, and community. That dream transcends party affiliation and gets to the beating heart of our democracy, who we are as a people.

This November, Long Island and America have a choice: more of the same, more of out-of-touch career politicians like Lee Zeldin and Donald Trump.

Or a movement, coast-to-coast, of millions of Americans. Small business owners. School teachers. First-time voters. Parents striving for a better future for their children.

It's time to fire Lee Zeldin, take back the House, and stop Donald Trump.

Medicare for All. Keeping our communities safe by banning assault weapons. Protecting our clean air and water from pollution. A robust economy with family-wage jobs. Equality for all. Protecting a woman's right to make her own health care choices. Humane immigration policies that don't lock children and asylum-seekers in cages.

These are our rallying cries.

Are you in?

Join our movement. Let's defeat Donald Trump's favorite congressman, Lee Zeldin, and take back our country.
